Ashtanga Yoga courses

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic form of Hatha Yoga in which each posture is taught in a set sequence, each pose preparing you for the next.

What sets Ashtanga Yoga apart from other approaches to yoga is the way that the physical work is joined together by means of Vinyasa - breathing and movement synchronisation. For every posture there is a fixed number of breaths and movement in and out of the posture, like a sacred dance.

For each movement there is also a Drishti or gaze point, and internal muscles are engaged using Bandha - muscle contractions or energy seals. This combination of Vinyasa, Drishti and Bandha creates the foundations for a correct Ashtanga practice.

This course concentrates on the Primary Series of the Ashtanga system, the purpose of which is to make the body healthy and strong by detoxifying, rebalancing and aligning it. It comprises Sun Salutations A & B and around 50 postures including standing poses, seated poses and a closing sequence.

The course is suitable for existing qualified yoga teachers or for competent practitioners of other forms of yoga who would like to extend their practice.
